Uttarakhand UCC: Crackdown on False Complaints

The Uttarakhand government has introduced fines to curb false complaints related to marriage, divorce, or live-in applications under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Initial warnings will be given, with escalating fines on subsequent offenses. This aims to prevent misuse of the system and ensure smoother proceedings.

The Uttarakhand government has implemented measures to deter false complaints concerning marriage, divorce, and live-in registration applications under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Authorities have stated that individuals filing false complaints will first receive a warning, followed by fines of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 for the second and third offenses, respectively.

Additional Secretary (Home) Nivedita Kukreti elaborated that these fines will be recovered in a manner akin to land revenue, thus discouraging the filing of baseless complaints. This initiative aims to eliminate obstacles caused by frivolous allegations, promoting a dispute-free process.

According to Rule 20 (Subsection 2) of Chapter 6 of the UCC Rules, the fine must be paid online within 45 days. Failure to do so will result in recovery through the tehsil. The government hopes this regulation will deter harassment through fraudulent claims, ensuring a smoother implementation of the UCC.
