Mass Graves Uncovered: Migration Tragedy in Libya

Libyan security forces have uncovered more mass graves in the southeast, bringing the total number of migrant bodies found to 57. The International Organization for Migration reported gunshot wounds on some bodies. Libya remains a dangerous transit route for migrants aiming to reach Europe.

Libyan security authorities have discovered 29 more bodies in a mass grave in the country's southeast, raising the total number to 57. This follows the attorney general's recent report of 28 bodies found in northern Kufra.

The International Organization for Migration confirmed the bodies in two graves showed gunshot wounds. Kufra is located approximately 1,700 kilometers from Tripoli, the Libyan capital.

Mohamed Fadil, head of services combating illegal migration, said more graves might be found as the operation continues. Libya has become a dangerous transit route for migrants heading to Europe post-2011's uprising against Muammar Gaddafi.
