The Pithoragarh Police have successfully apprehended a significant drug smuggling suspect. Neeraj Sarki, aged 25, was arrested on charges of possessing heroin worth Rs 35 lakh.

Authorities recovered 116.73 grams of heroin and Rs 2,190 in cash from Sarki, who was also wanted for a previous bag-snatching incident involving a senior citizen in February 2025. Pithoragarh Superintendent of Police Rekha Yadav announced the arrest on Friday.

The capture was made possible with the assistance of Muzamil Ansari, a co-accused in the unsolved bag snatching case. Law enforcement officials, led by SP Yadav, are now focusing on enhanced anti-drug operations to rid the district of narcotics.
