The Mizoram state election commission (SEC) has announced pivotal elections for village councils within the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), slated for March 12 in Lawngtlai district. With these elections, Mizoram takes a progressive step by reserving 88 of its 516 seats for women, illustrating a commitment to gender inclusivity in governance.

The election process is detailed with February 19 as the last date for filing nominations, and February 24 the deadline for withdrawing candidacy. Election commissioner H. Lalthlangliana assured the timely completion of the elections, with counting to commence immediately after polls on March 12, concluding the entire process by March 18.

In the recent elections for village councils and local councils in other regions, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) came out as a significant winner, securing the majority in numerous councils. The opposition, including the Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress, also gained notable victories. Voter turnout was robust, exceeding 75%, indicating vigorous public engagement in the electoral process.
