Odisha's Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, unveiled an ambitious plan aimed at bolstering the welfare of women functioning as community support staff. On Friday, he introduced the 'Lakhpati Didi Sahayika Yojana,' a scheme that promises financial remuneration and grant support to these grassroots-level workers.

The announcement, made in the Assembly, highlighted that over 62,000 community support staff would benefit from the initiative with their remuneration beginning in April 2024. This move is part of a larger strategy to make women self-reliant and contribute to a prosperous Odisha, according to Majhi.

Majhi criticized the previous administration for its oversight, pointing out that many support staff had been left unpaid for the last ten months. Additionally, the state has rolled out the 'Lakhpati Didi Yojana' to help women in self-help groups achieve an income of Rs 1 lakh annually, envisioning 25 lakh 'Lakhpati Didis' by 2027.
