A Russian court has ruled to detain an American, identified as Kalob Wayne Byers, for a period of 30 days on charges related to drug smuggling. The announcement was made by the Moscow courts press service on Saturday.

Byers was apprehended by customs officials at Moscow's Vnukovo airport following a baggage inspection, according to the official statement.

The Russian Federal Customs Service had earlier confirmed the arrest of the 28-year-old on Friday after cannabis-laced marmalade was found among his belongings, as reported by the Interfax news agency.
