Israel's Strategic Blueprint: Gaza Ceasefire Negotiations and Demilitarization Plans
Israel is set to commence the second phase of discussions regarding the Gaza ceasefire, focusing on exchanging detainees and ensuring the enclave's complete demilitarization. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that Israel opposes a 'Hezbollah model' in Gaza and the transfer of control to the Palestinian Authority.
Israel is preparing to initiate talks on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, specifically concerning the exchange of remaining hostages for Palestinian detainees. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar highlighted the nation's position on ensuring Gaza's complete demilitarization.
Saar noted that although negotiations were planned to begin before the initial phase concludes on March 2, Qatar confirmed the talks have yet to start. He emphasized that Israel rejects a 'Hezbollah model' in Gaza, advocating for a total demilitarization and opposing any presence of the Palestinian Authority.
Further, Saar mentioned an alternative proposal by Arab states to counter U.S. plans for redeveloping Gaza, a notion Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu considers exploring. However, Israel remains firm on not supporting any strategy that shifts Gaza's civilian control from Hamas to the Palestinian Authority.
