A couple has allegedly succumbed to financial pressures, taking their lives near a water tank at Vijaynagar Ground, according to police reports. The tragedy, linked to online betting debts, unfolded on Tuesday morning, claiming the lives of Jobi Antony and his wife, Sharmila.
The incident reflects a disturbing pattern as it followed the suicide of Jobi's elder twin brother, Joshi Antony, only a day earlier. Joshi's death occurred within the Mysuru South police station limits. In a recorded video before his death, Joshi alleged that Jobi and Sharmila had acquired loans totaling Rs 80 lakh for online betting.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the failure to repay these loans brought intense harassment upon Joshi and their sister, Mary, by moneylenders. This financial turmoil allegedly stemmed from Jobi and Sharmila staying at Mary’s residence temporarily. Authorities continue to investigate as the deceased's bodies are set to be released to the family post-mortem.
