ESIC's December Surge: Social Security Expansion Across India

The ESIC added 17.01 lakh new members in December 2024, with 20,360 new establishments joining the ESI scheme. A significant portion were young employees, with 73 transgender individuals also enrolled. In a significant stride towards enhancing the social security net in India, the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) reported the addition of 17.01 lakh new members in December 2024. This expansion, disclosed in payroll data released on Friday, underscores ESIC's growing reach and influence throughout the nation.

The latest figures reveal that 20,360 new establishments have entered the ESI scheme, bringing more workers under its protective umbrella. Notably, young employees up to the age of 25 constituted approximately 48.35% of these new registrations, while the net enrolment of female members was recorded at 3.46 lakh.

In a move reflecting its commitment to inclusivity, ESIC registered 73 transgender employees under the ESI scheme during the month. Although the payroll data remains provisional due to the ongoing nature of data collection, it highlights the corporation's efforts to extend benefits to all sections of society.
