Shakir Khan, a central figure in the Kushinagar Madni Mosque controversy, died from a cardiac arrest at 65 on Friday morning. His demise comes amid intense distress caused by the mosque's partial demolition earlier this month, under allegations of illegal construction.

District officials stated that the controversy dates back to 1999, instigated by local leader Ram Bachchan Singh's complaint of illegal build. An official inquiry last December led municipal authorities to issue notices demanding legal documentation, which were not satisfactorily provided, leading to the mosque's demolition.

Despite these claims, Haji Hamid Khan, president of the Madni Mosque Committee, insisted the mosque was lawful. The Supreme Court has intervened, questioning the state's non-compliance with its prior orders and halting further demolition until the investigation concludes.
