Swedish authorities announced an investigation on Friday into a damaged undersea cable discovered in the Baltic Sea, a region already troubled by recent reports of similar incidents. These events have heightened suspicions of Russian involvement in sabotage and espionage.

The recent cable breakage occurred between Germany and Finland near Gotland, within Sweden's economic zone, prompting a response from the Coast Guard. Authorities had previously identified damage to another cable between Latvia and Gotland, although sabotage was ruled out after initial investigation.

In response to these events, the European Commission has unveiled strategic measures to safeguard undersea cables in its territories, emphasizing enhanced security and risk assessments.
