The move comes after four oil tankers, three situated around the Mediterranean and one in the Baltic region, suffered damage due to unexplained explosions in the past month. Shipping sources and tracking data confirmed these vessels had recently docked at Russian ports.

In response, Italy has launched a terrorism probe after the Greek-operated tanker Seajewel sustained damage under suspicious circumstances while anchored off Savona-Vado. Russian authorities emphasize these inspections as vital for safeguarding both vessels and port infrastructure from emerging terrorist threats.
