Mizoram's government is considering an amendment to its liquor prohibition law, potentially allowing the sale of wine and beer. Chief Minister Lalduhoma stated the amendment is intended to regulate, not lift, the existing ban on hard liquor.

The proposed legislative change will be introduced in the assembly during the current budget session. The 2019 law, enforced by the previous MNF government, enforced a total ban on liquor sales.

This action follows the authorization given in 2022 for wines made from local grapes due to protests from grape growers. The state's history with liquor laws has seen shifts from partial relaxation to total prohibition since 1984.
