Hamas Releases Israeli Hostages Amid Ceasefire

Hamas has released three Israeli hostages to the Red Cross amidst a ceasefire. The hostages, Omer Wenkert, Omer Shem Tov, and Eliya Cohen, were paraded before a crowd in Nuseirat. Their families in Israel celebrated their freedom. This marks another step in the ongoing hostage negotiations.

In a significant development under the current ceasefire, Hamas released three more Israeli hostages to the Red Cross. The three men, Omer Wenkert, Omer Shem Tov, and Eliya Cohen, were paraded on stage before Palestinians in Nuseirat by armed Hamas fighters, wearing fake military uniforms.

The emotional release was watched from Israel, where Cohen's family and friends cheered while Shem Tov's grandmother expressed her joy vocally at seeing her loved one again. The hostages were subsequently escorted by Red Cross vehicles towards Israel.

This latest release follows the earlier freeing of two hostages in Rafah, with another, Hesham al-Sayed, expected to be released soon. These developments come after their abduction at the Nova festival during a Hamas attack on Oct. 7, 2023.
