A tragic shooting at the Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico early Saturday claimed the life of one airman and left another injured, military authorities reported. Despite the abrupt violence, officials have ruled out terrorism or any external attack.
According to a statement from the base located in Albuquerque, security forces responded promptly to the incident near one of the entrances at around 2 am. One airman was pronounced dead on the scene, while another suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and was later discharged from the hospital.
The Air Force has yet to disclose further details, including possible custody of suspects, and refrained from confirming if the perpetrator was among the airmen. FBI and Albuquerque police are jointly conducting the investigation, with no active search for suspects underway.
