Casting Couch Scandal: Allegations Rock Film Industry

A police case has been registered against a man and his accomplices for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman under the pretense of securing her acting roles. The victim, from Thane, was abused after being introduced to someone in the film industry, resulting in charges under several legal provisions.

A man has been accused of raping a 34-year-old woman multiple times under the guise of offering her promising acting opportunities in the film industry, authorities reported on Sunday.

In the ongoing case, another woman, along with her husband and daughter, faces accusations of threatening and blackmailing the victim, a Scheduled Caste resident of Majiwada in Thane. Police have yet to make arrests.

The accused allegedly took the victim to Singapore, where she was introduced to a man claimed to be influential. The victim was reportedly raped in Singapore and at various locations in Mumbai. Legal action under several provisions, including the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, is underway.
