Commercial activities in Chitarpur town, Jharkhand, came to a halt on Tuesday as a dawn-to-dusk bandh called by AJSU Party MP Chandra Prakash Choudhary unfolded peacefully, according to police reports.

Supporters blockaded roads for four hours on the Ramgarh-Bokaro highway, but police managed to have the blockades lifted by assuring appropriate action on the alleged abduction of a 26-year-old woman.

Protesters, led by Choudhary, held a torchlight procession and burned an effigy of the chief minister, accusing the government of inaction. Meanwhile, shopkeepers closed businesses in support, while emergency services remained operational.
