Chaos engulfed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House on Tuesday as AAP and BJP councillors squabbled fiercely over two crucial proposals — a house tax waiver and the regularisation of 12,000 contractual municipal workers.
Despite the uproar, MCD Mayor Mahesh Kumar assured in a press conference that both measures had received approval, noting a sufficient quorum of councillors was present from their side. Opposition leaders, however, disputed this, arguing that procedural flaws rendered the decisions unofficial.
The conflict escalated when the proposals were introduced without the presence of the deputy commissioner, prompting AAP to insist on proceeding with an additional commissioner. As tensions mounted, councillors exchanged slogans passionately, highlighting deep-rooted divisions between the parties.
