Five Indian-Origin Men Jailed in Singapore Rioting Incident

Five Indian-origin men were sentenced to jail and caning for involvement in a riot at a Singapore hotel that resulted in a bouncer's death. The incident occurred in 2023 at Concorde Hotel. Another man faces murder charges pending trial, while six others are co-accused.

In a significant judicial outcome, five Indian-origin men have been sentenced to jail terms ranging from two to three years, in addition to receiving corporal punishment, for their involvement in a fatal riot at a Singapore hotel that claimed the life of a former bouncer.

Among those sentenced, Sridharan Elangovan received 36 months of imprisonment and six strokes of the cane, while Manojkumar Velayanatham was sentenced to 30 months and four strokes. Sashikumar Pakirsamy, Puthenvilla Keith Peter, and Raja Rishi also received varying sentences for their roles in the 2023 incident that took place at Concorde Hotel and Shopping Mall.

The case has highlighted the presence of secret societies among the convicted, with another suspect, Asvain Pachan Pillai Sukumaran, facing pending murder charges. Six other accused individuals of varying ages have been named in connection to the fatal confrontation.
