The Supreme Court on Friday took a firm stance against the actions of the Chhattisgarh Police for invoking the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against Manish Rathore, days after he was granted interim protection from arrest in a murder case.

A bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan criticized the police for adding the UAPA charge, labeling it as an attempt to undermine its January 2 interim bail order. Consequently, the court granted Rathore bail.

The justices viewed the police's actions as an overreach and impropriety, cautioning them against contempt of the court's directives. Rathore's appeal to the top court followed the Chhattisgarh High Court's refusal to grant anticipatory bail citing his alleged criminal involvement.
