Mizoram Accelerates Efforts to Establish Human Rights Commission

The Mizoram government is expediting the establishment of its state human rights commission. A notification was issued last October to formalize posts, and a search committee is recommending officials. The initiative follows a court deadline demanding the commission's setup, with compliance reported by the state's legal representative.

The Mizoram government is fast-tracking the establishment of a state human rights commission, State Home Minister K Sapdanga announced. The process includes issuing a formal notification last October to create essential positions within the commission.

A search committee, formed in November, is tasked with recommending suitable candidates for the panel's chairperson and members. Efforts are ongoing to secure appropriate housing and financial arrangements for the commission's operations.

This initiative comes after a deadline from the Gauhati High Court's Aizawl bench, directing the state to establish the commission. Compliance with the court’s directive and establishment activities have since been confirmed by government advocate H. Lalmalsawmi.
