K N Anand Kumar, the chairman of the National NGO Confederation, was taken into custody by the crime branch of the Kerala police. The arrest is tied to allegations that he was part of a scheme promising scooters and laptops at half their price using CSR funds.
The arrest occurred shortly after a court in Thiruvananthapuram rejected Kumar's anticipatory bail plea. A police source indicated that the action was completed at his residence, followed by a medical examination to address his ongoing treatment for health issues.
The main accused, Anandu Krishnan, was previously detained for reportedly masterminding the multi-crore fraud. Based in Thodupuzha, Krishnan allegedly exploited Kumar's network to orchestrate the scam. Allegations from victims prompted a deeper investigation into Kumar's potential involvement, though he maintains innocence, stating he is not personally connected to the scam.
