AIMPLB Rallies Against Contentious Waqf Bill

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) announced a significant protest against the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Bill. Scheduled for March 17 at Jantar Mantar, the demonstration seeks to urge 'secular' political parties, including those within the NDA government, to reconsider the proposed legislation.

The board's spokesperson, SQR Ilyas, explained that the protest was initially set for March 13 but was rescheduled due to Holi and potential Parliament non-session. Emphasizing the Bill's threat to Waqf properties, Ilyas highlighted the Board's extensive efforts, including mobilizing 3.6 crore email responses, to convey their concerns.

Despite opposition from minority groups and several political parties, the government has maintained its stance on the bill, which is perceived as discriminatory by many. AIMPLB's general secretary, Maulana Fazlur Raheem Mujaddidi, reiterated that the bill fails to consider key stakeholder input, setting the stage for nationwide protests by various Muslim organizations.
