The Shahi Jama Masjid Committee in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, has outrightly denied any coordination with local police over the timing of Friday prayers scheduled to coincide with Holi on March 14. The committee has reiterated its sole authority in setting the prayer schedule, distancing itself from any administrative suggestions.
Clarifying their stance, Zafar Ali, the committee's president, insisted that no representative was present at the recent peace committee meeting, dismissing speculation about set prayer timings. Ali assured the public that an announcement will be made shortly following consultations with religious scholars.
Tensions have lingered in Sambhal, a city marked by prior communal unrest. In anticipation, security has been bolstered with Provincial Armed Constabulary deployment. Despite police statements recommending post-2:30 pm prayers, no formal agreement has been reached with the mosque committee, which remains committed to a harmonious celebration of both Holi and Ramzan.
