In a significant move ahead of International Women's Day, Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel declared an additional Rs 2 crore grant for each of the state's 14 women MLAs. This gesture is designated to support road construction and other developmental schemes within their constituencies.
The initiative aligns with the Bharatiya Janata Party's objective of promoting women's role in governance and infrastructure development. The funds are supplementary to the existing welfare allocations for the year 2025-26, providing these legislators additional resources to initiate local projects.
In a meeting with these representatives, Patel emphasized the importance of investing in the 'Catch the Rain' campaign, encouraging each MLA to devote Rs 50 lakh from their new grant for rainwater harvesting, as part of a broader environmental conservation strategy urged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
