The Jharkhand Cabinet has given the green light to the Joint Recruitment Rules 2025, aiming to ease the physical ability test criteria for various recruitment processes, including police and excise constable positions.

Under the new regulations, male candidates are required to complete a 1,600-meter run in just six minutes, replacing the previous test of a 10-kilometer run in an hour. Similarly, female candidates must finish their run in 10 minutes, as opposed to the former 5-kilometer run in 40 minutes.

The decision came after the tragic deaths of 15 aspirants during an excise constable recruitment drive last year, which became a significant issue in the political landscape. Chief Minister Hemant Soren had requested a detailed probe into these deaths, highlighting the need to amend the existing physical test requirements.
