High-Stakes Encounter: Notorious Criminal Shot by Police in Rourkela

A notorious criminal sustained a gunshot wound during a confrontation with police in Rourkela on Wednesday, according to an officer's report.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movements of notorious criminals Beyas Lakhua and Amit Topno, a police team led by Bisra police station's inspector in charge attempted to apprehend the duo early in the morning, stated Brijesh Kumar Rai, DIG (Western range).

As the officers approached, Lakhua opened fire, prompting the police to return fire, resulting in Lakhua's injury. Both men have multiple cases against them in Jharkhand and Odisha, and further verifications are underway. Police seized weapons and arrested Amit after a brief escape.
