The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh each to the families of four individuals from Belagavi who tragically lost their lives during the stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on January 29, an official confirmed on Wednesday.

Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan informed reporters that after collaborating with Prayagraj District Commissioner Ravi Manjar, the compensation was credited directly to the bank accounts of the deceased, namely Jyoti Hattarwad, Megha Hattarwad, Mahadevi Bavanur, and Arun Koparde.

Roshan also noted that errors in the names on death reports were corrected, with updated details sent electronically to the Prayagraj District Commissioner. He assured that the post-mortem reports and death certificates would be dispatched within two days, following a tragic incident at the Sangam Ghat which saw 30 devotees killed and 60 injured.
