Over the past 12 days, Punjab Police have taken significant strides in their war against drugs by arresting 658 drug smugglers in an extensive operation spanning multiple districts. The operation led to the confiscation of 994 grams of heroin, 4,633 intoxicant tablets, injections, and Rs 1.47 lakh in cash.
This massive crackdown was orchestrated on the orders of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, employing over 250 police teams and upwards of 1,600 officers. The expansive raids addressed 543 locations and scrutinized 659 suspicious individuals, marking a decisive approach in the state’s fight against drug trafficking.
Punjab’s campaign against drug abuse also included checking 281 pharmaceutical shops across five districts to ensure compliance with drug regulations. With Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann setting a deadline to rid the state of drugs within three months, these efforts underscore the administration's commitment to tackling this pervasive issue head-on.
