The state of Jharkhand is set to embark on a caste-based survey in the upcoming financial year, according to a statement by a minister during a recent state Assembly session. This move reflects the government's commitment to accurate demographic mapping.
Minister Deepak Birua of the Transport, Revenue, and Land Reforms department emphasized the administration's dedication to conducting the survey, noting that the Personnel department is tasked as the nodal agency. Plans for the survey, initially decided upon in February of the previous year, are underway despite the absence of a confirmed deadline.
Congress MLA Pradip Yadav inquired about the timeline and progress made by the personnel department. In response, Minister Birua mentioned efforts to hire an agency for logistical planning and acknowledged the impending end of the current financial year. Discussions included potential inclusion of the Sarna religious code to better account for the Sarna community in the survey data.
