A tense situation unfolded in West Bengal's Uttar Dinajpur district as protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls escalated into vandalism on Thursday. A government office was targeted, raising concerns over public safety.
Protestors, issued notices for SIR verification hearings, blocked the state highway at Kahata area in Chakulia from the early morning. This led to significant traffic disruptions, prompting swift police intervention.
A large police force was deployed to manage the unrest. The authorities quickly regained control and issued a high alert across the Islampur police district to prevent further incidents.
