The External Affairs Ministry has conveyed to a parliamentary committee that the Bangladesh government has yet to acknowledge systematic minority persecution and is downplaying violence against Hindus post-Sheikh Hasina's tenure, according to sources.
During a meeting led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, the ministry highlighted the rise in extremist influence exploiting political gaps in Bangladesh, aiming for an Islamic caliphate. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri detailed the future of India-Bangladesh relations and concerns of the Indian diaspora globally.
The committee was informed about continuing chaos in Bangladesh, characterized by mob justice and crimes against minorities. Despite India's urging for justice against such violence, serious action remains inadequate. Strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing regional security concerns remains crucial, the committee concluded.
