Punjab Police is intensifying its crackdown on drug networks, aiming to dismantle major suppliers and kingpins in the state, as announced by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. The focus is shifting from street-level arrests to targeting the higher echelons of the narcotics trade.
The campaign 'Yudh Nashian Virudh,' initiated in 2025 by the Punjab Government, has already resulted in the arrest of 4,142 drug smugglers and the seizure of substantial quantities of various narcotics. The move underscores a strategic shift towards identifying and prosecuting the main suppliers.
Furthermore, Punjab Police plans to introduce 'Mohalla Committees' in urban areas to replicate the success of village defense committees, emphasizing community involvement in combating the drug menace. The public is also encouraged to use the Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline to report offenses anonymously.
