Champhai Court's 10-Year Verdict in Heroin Possession Case

In a significant ruling, the Champhai district court in Mizoram has handed down a 10-year sentence to Thangmunglian for heroin possession. The special court under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act delivered its judgment on Wednesday.
Thangmunglian was apprehended in October 2022 with 426 grams of heroin, a substantial amount that prompted legal proceedings. In addition to the prison term, the court has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh, highlighting the severe repercussions of drug-related offenses.
According to officials, this verdict underscores the judiciary's strict stance on drug enforcement within the region, aiming to curb the spread of illegal substances.
