Controversial Move: Petition Filed to Cancel Rahul Gandhi's Citizenship

A new petition has been filed in the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, seeking the cancellation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Indian citizenship and a ban on his foreign travel. Submitted by S V Shishir, this follows a previously disposed petition on similar grounds.

A petition seeking the revocation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Indian citizenship was introduced in the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday. This latest plea also includes a demand to bar Gandhi, the leading opposition figure in the Lok Sabha, from international travel pending a decision.

S V Shishir, a Karnataka resident, submitted the petition through the court registry, which is yet to clear it for a hearing. Once approved, the petition will advance to the court for judicial review. Shishir's previous attempt on this matter was dismissed on May 5 by a bench led by Justice A R Masoodi and Justice Rajiv Singh.

The earlier court order acknowledged that Shishir had already approached the central government about Gandhi's citizenship status. The court instructed the relevant authority to evaluate the representation according to legal procedures. The fresh petition reinforces the call to revoke Gandhi's citizenship and adds a request for a travel ban, with future action dependent on court processes.
