Sri Lanka Deports Cybercrime Convicts to China

Sri Lanka deported 85 Chinese nationals convicted of cybercrime. A total of 130 were arrested in Kundasale, with over 200 mobile phones and 100 laptops seized. The equipment will be handed to the Chinese Embassy. Most were detained pending deportation, with some managing to evade court.

Sri Lankan authorities have deported 85 Chinese nationals convicted of cybercrime offenses following their arrest in Kundasale, a central province town. The mass deportation transpired at Colombo International Airport, as officials confirmed on Friday.

The raid led to the arrest of 130 individuals, including 22 women, involved in alleged cybercriminal activities. Law enforcement seized significant technological apparatus, including over 200 mobile phones and more than 100 laptops. The court ordered this equipment to be transferred to the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.

Following judicial directives, 122 of those arrested were placed in detention facilities before their eventual return to China. However, seven of the accused managed to evade the judicial process. The majority were subsequently transported to the airport in a coordinated operation using five buses, and have since boarded a flight to Guangzhou, China.
