In a dynamic initiative aimed at empowering veterans with dignified and rewarding second careers, the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW), Ministry of Defence (MoD), successfully organized a Job Fair exclusively for retired and retiring Armed Forces Officers. The event, held in the capital city, was attended by over 500 veterans from across the Tri-Services (Army, Navy, and Air Force), who had registered through the official DGR employment portal www.esmhire.com.

The fair not only reinforced the MoD’s commitment to the welfare of India’s ex-servicemen but also brought together 25 leading national and multinational companies, physically present at the event, offering over 100 job vacancies tailored for experienced and skilled veterans.

A Strategic Bridge Between Military and Civil Careers

The DGR Job Fair served as a high-impact convergence point for retiring officers and reputed corporates, creating a win-win situation for both. While veterans had the opportunity to explore roles in mid- to senior-level management, including positions like Strategic Planners, Project Directors, Administrators, and Operational Heads, companies gained access to a talent pool known for discipline, leadership, and high-stakes decision-making.

From sectors like infrastructure, defense manufacturing, aviation, cybersecurity, project management, logistics, HR, and corporate security, participating firms actively sought veterans who bring with them decades of operational experience, team leadership, crisis response, and strategic vision.

Senior Leadership Reaffirms Commitment to Veteran Welfare

The event was graced by distinguished figures from the defense and corporate sectors. Among those addressing the gathering were:

  • Dr. Niten Chandra, Secretary (Ex-Servicemen Welfare)

  • Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area

  • Maj Gen SBK Singh, Director General, Resettlement (DGR)

  • Mr. Ramesh K, Director General, Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM)

  • Shri Ajay Kumar, Joint Secretary, DESW

  • Brig DS Basera, Secretary, Kendriya Sainik Board

Their addresses emphasized the importance of leveraging the strength of India's veteran community, appreciating their dedication to national service, and highlighting the government’s proactive efforts in ensuring their economic and social reintegration post-retirement.

A Platform for New Beginnings and Lifelong Careers

The job fair attracted officers not only from Delhi NCR but also from surrounding regions, making it a pan-regional platform for career transitions. Candidates underwent initial screening and were shortlisted for further interviews by corporate recruiters present at the venue.

For many officers approaching the end of their service tenure, such events represent more than just employment—they signify a renewal of purpose, identity, and continued contribution to nation-building in new capacities.

“Our officers possess unparalleled training, integrity, and commitment. Through platforms like this, we ensure their transition into civil life is smooth, respectful, and aligned with their potential,” said Maj Gen SBK Singh.

Strengthening the Nation Through Veteran Integration

The MoD has long recognized that resettlement support is a crucial pillar of welfare for ex-servicemen. Initiatives like this Job Fair fall under broader efforts to:

  • Facilitate second career opportunities

  • Promote financial stability among retired personnel

  • Ensure skill utilization in national development

  • Reinforce the idea of veterans as national assets

With growing collaboration between DGR, corporate bodies, industry associations like SIDM, and the Government of India, such initiatives are expected to expand in scale and frequency, eventually leading to integrated employment ecosystems for ex-servicemen across the country.

Looking Ahead: Building on Success

The positive response to this job fair reflects the demand for such initiatives. With strong backing from the MoD and enthusiastic participation from both veterans and industry, the DGR aims to scale up job fairs regionally, leverage digital platforms, and diversify into entrepreneurial training and consulting opportunities for ex-servicemen.

“This isn’t just about providing jobs. It’s about unlocking the full value of our veterans’ service, and ensuring they continue to uplift the nation in new ways,” said Secretary (ESW) Dr. Niten Chandra.
