In a significant breakthrough, Odisha Police, aided by immigration officials, have apprehended an Afghan national accused of illegally residing in India for over five years using a false identity. The man, identified as Mohammad Yousaf, also known by the alias Yaha Khan, conducted business in Cuttack city after forging critical identification documents.
The arrest took place following a written complaint by DSP Samapika Pattnaik from Biju Patnaik International Airport. Yousaf attempted to pass immigration with a forged Indian passport from Dubai when discrepancies were found, revealing an existing lookout circular issued against him at Kolkata Airport.
Further investigation uncovered Yousaf's fraudulent acquisition of multiple Indian identity documents, enabling his undetected stay and activities in Odisha. Seized items included fake IDs, foreign currency, and unexplained bank documents, enhancing suspicions of criminal activities under an assumed identity.
