Amid allegations of security oversights at the recently concluded Gangasagar Mela, West Bengal Police reiterated their unwavering commitment to festival safety. In a statement released on social media platform X, the police emphasized that the event ended without any major incidents, except for a minor, non-damaging fire.
The post highlighted the extensive security arrangements, including the deployment of 15,000 officers working tirelessly under the direction of numerous senior officials. High-tech measures such as over 1,300 CCTV cameras and thermal-imaging drones were employed to ensure maximum safety for the millions of pilgrims in attendance.
The Trinamool Congress Minister for Fire and Emergency Services acknowledged the efforts, stating that the state government's preparations were well-received. The minister assured that the situation remained under control with 18 fire stations and more than 450 officials dedicated to fire prevention and public safety throughout the event.
