A notorious history-sheeter was arrested by a joint force of railway police and the Crime Branch for reportedly swiping cash and jewelry totaling Rs 34.98 lakh from an elderly passenger on the Indore-Daund Express.
The suspect, Mahesh Ghag, also known as Vicky, was apprehended in Chiplun, Maharashtra, soon after the incident, which took place on Thursday night. The woman discovered the theft when the train reached Kalyan station on Friday morning, realizing her bag, containing valuables such as pearl necklaces and diamond-studded bangles, was missing.
A quick investigation involving CCTV footage identified Ghag hastily exiting the train in a questionable manner. Known for previous offenses, Ghag was tracked down and captured within 12 hours of the incident, with the stolen property successfully recovered.
