In a significant diplomatic engagement, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met with newly appointed Bangladesh High Commissioner M. Riaz Hamidullah at the state secretariat on Monday.
The meeting, attended by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, marked the first interaction between Banerjee and a Bangladesh High Commissioner in nearly nine years, according to sources.
This development follows Banerjee's appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Centre's intervention concerning the recent vandalism of Rabindra Kachharibari, a heritage site linked to the Tagore family, in Shahzadpur, Sirajganj, Bangladesh.
