The Delhi High Court has imposed a halt on the dissemination of any offensive material concerning a minor girl on social media platforms. This decision comes in light of the creation of fraudulent Instagram accounts that distributed altered images of the girl.

Justice Manoj Jain instructed social media company Meta Platforms Inc., owner of Instagram, to provide the minor's family with the basic subscriber details of the individuals responsible for the fake accounts.

The court emphasized the potential irreparable harm to the victim if no immediate legal intervention is made, thus tilting the balance of convenience in the victim's favor.

Those involved in the creation of these fake accounts have been barred from sharing any further inappropriate content until the next hearing on July 4.

The court ordered Meta to block these accounts after supplying essential subscriber information, including IP details.

The case revolves around a 15-year-old girl whose photos, including doctored ones, were circulated by unknown individuals, infringing her right to privacy. Her counsel argued that the fake accounts were anonymously operated.

The plea revealed a clear impersonation act that began when the victim innocently accepted a friend request, leading to the misuse of her details to create fake profiles.

Allegations were made that the defendants used the girl's explicit photos, obtained through deceptive means, to coerce her.
