Indian-Origin Man's Arrest: The Concorde Hotel Riot

An Indian-origin man, Kavind Raj Kannan, has been sentenced to prison and caning for his involvement in a riot at the Concorde Hotel in 2023, where another man was killed. The case involves a group of 11 men, with one member charged with murder while others face various charges.

Kavind Raj Kannan, a 25-year-old of Indian origin, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison, along with three strokes of the cane, for his role in a riot that led to the death of Mohammad Isrrat Mohd Ismail at the Concorde Hotel on August 20, 2023.

In a report by The Straits Times, court documents reveal that Isrrat was fatally stabbed by Asvain Pachan Pillai Sukumaran, another member of the rioting group. The group, comprising a total of 11 men, included Kavind alongside Sukumaran, who now faces murder charges.

While the court has delivered sentences to other gang members, Kavind's defense argued for a reduced sentence, emphasizing Isrrat's initial aggression. The legal proceedings continue as Sukumaran awaits trial for murder.
