In December, Indian company Ideal Detonators Private Limited exported $1.4 million worth of the explosive compound HMX to Russia, according to customs data reviewed by Reuters. Despite U.S. threats of sanctions targeting entities supporting Russia's military operations, these shipments underline the complexities of India's international relations.
HMX, known for its military applications in missile and warhead production, was supplied to Russian firms including Promsintez. While the U.S. recognizes the compound's critical role in Russia's conflict in Ukraine, it continues cautioning allies like India about potential sanctions tied to such transactions.
Amid ongoing trade with Moscow, India navigates its strategic partnerships, trying to balance its historical ties with Russia and its growing alliance with the United States to counterbalance China. The situation highlights the geopolitical intricacies at play as nations reassess alliances in light of broader conflicts.
