India and UK Pave New Path with Trade and Gender Equality Chapter

India has agreed to include a dedicated chapter on trade and gender equality in a free trade agreement with the UK. This chapter aims to enhance opportunities for women in various economic sectors. A Trade and Gender Equality Working Group will monitor and review the chapter's implementation and impact.

In a historic move, India has agreed to incorporate a chapter focused on trade and gender equality in its latest free trade agreement with the United Kingdom. This unprecedented step aims to create equitable economic opportunities for women, encompassing workers, business owners, and entrepreneurs in global, regional, and domestic markets.

The agreement calls for both nations to uphold and enforce laws and regulations that promote gender equality, working towards improved access to trade and economic opportunities for women. A Trade and Gender Equality Working Group has been inaugurated to facilitate this initiative, consisting of government representatives from both countries.

This Working Group is tasked with monitoring the progress of the chapter's implementation and will convene regularly to discuss matters pertinent to advancing women's economic empowerment. Furthermore, it has been granted authority to recommend strategies to the Joint Committee for achieving the objectives laid out in this agreement.
