A suspect has been taken into custody by police in Odisha's Koraput district for the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl, authorities revealed Tuesday.

The family of the 17-year-old reported her missing on Sunday, triggering an immediate investigation, according to Koraput Town Police Station's Inspector-in-Charge, Satyananda Patra.

Patra stated that the suspect, under the guise of offering the girl a lift, kidnapped her and allegedly assaulted her in a vehicle. The authorities have since rescued the girl and apprehended the accused, who is now in judicial custody for 14 days.
