A court issued a life sentence to a man on Wednesday for drowning his six-year-old son after a domestic dispute with his wife.
The District and Sessions Judge, Jaiprakash Pandey, ordered Sanjay Rastogi, also known as Shani from Madohi village, to pay a Rs 1 lakh fine. A significant share of Rs 80,000 is designated for the child's mother, Dolly Rastogi.
The prosecution revealed Sanjay's struggle with alcoholism, which strained his marriage. His wife left to stay with her maternal uncle. On June 16, 2023, Sanjay, under the guise of giving their son a bath, drowned him in the village pond when his wife refused his financial demands. The court found him guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
