In the quiet village of Yavat in Pune's Daund tehsil, an objectionable social media post led to a frenzy of violence on Friday. The inflammatory post, uploaded by a non-local youth, sparked anger and chaos, resulting in vandalism and arson, officials confirmed.
The turmoil saw a motorcycle set on fire and a bakery damaged, forcing law enforcement to deploy teargas to regain control amid large, agitated crowds. A robust police presence has now restored calm in the area, according to Sandip Singh Gill, Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural).
In response, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have vowed strict action against those posting inflammatory content. Authorities emphasize the need for maintaining communal harmony and caution against spreading unfounded rumors in this tense situation.
