On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused previous administrations of corruption and nepotism in police recruitments prior to 2017, attributing these issues to a compromised law and order situation in the state.

Addressing a public event at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Adityanath spoke about the pre-2017 irregularities and bias that affected state security. He recounted events like terrorist attacks in key cities and highlighted the CRPF camp assault in Rampur as hallmarks of that turbulent era.

Since the 'double-engine government' was formed in 2017 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Adityanath claims substantial progress with transparent reforms in the recruitment process, leading to the addition of over 2.17 lakh new personnel. This wave of change also advanced infrastructure, created police commissionerates, and emphasized gender reservation, enhancing law enforcement capabilities.
