Front-Line Medics Struggle Amid Rising Drone Threats in Eastern Ukraine
In eastern Ukraine, medical evacuations from the front line have become increasingly perilous due to the extensive use of drones. Medics face challenges as drone strikes create dangerous zones, complicating efforts to save wounded soldiers. The advancement in drone technology has significantly increased mortality rates among the injured.

In eastern Ukraine, once-quiet nights at front-line medical posts are now often interrupted by urgent medical emergencies caused by the intensifying conflict. Medics, hastily awakened, do their best to save incoming soldiers but are often too late due to delayed evacuations.
The delays, exacerbated by the widespread use of drones, have marked a shift in warfare, as medics explain that these drones create perilous zones, complicating efforts to rescue the wounded. Anesthesiologist Daryna Boiko cites transport as the main challenge, with drones reaching areas up to 20 kilometers from the front line.
Medics have adapted, but the drones' precision and destructive power mean increased challenges. Commanders emphasize self-aid training due to risks of prolonged exposure in danger zones, but the advancing drone war makes survival increasingly difficult, impacting operations and forcing frequent relocations of stabilization points.
